- Learn and practise formal C2 structures such as It wasn't long before, far from, revealed to have been and negative inversion with No longer would to write a CPE Part 1 or Part 2 essay in a formal academic register.
What students are going to cover
In this lesson, students will explore how the Brothers Grimm transformed violent oral folklore into sanitized morality stories for middle-class children, using the TED-Ed video The dark origins of Disney fairy tales by Claudia Schwabe. They will build advanced vocabulary related to violence, editing and cultural identity, and complete a C2 English lesson plan on 18 fixed prepositional collocations linked to the video transcript. Learners then rewrite sentences with advanced syntax such as far from and No longer would, and discuss real viewer comments about Disney and cultural softening. The lesson ends with a Cambridge C2 Proficiency writing task and model essays. By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to analyse ideological change in literature, use precise C2 collocations, and write a structured CPE essay in a formal academic register.
