What students are going to cover
In this lesson, students will explore whether we are paying for too much through a short opinion text on subscription creep. They will build vocabulary related to subscriptions, recurring payments and consumer behaviour, such as sign up for a free trial and get your money's worth, and strengthen their speaking skills through three discussion rounds: ranking services by value, comparing one-off payments with monthly plans, and defending an allocated position on free trials and cancellation rules. They will then upgrade their own sentences with the new language before completing a subscription audit, presenting a verdict on which services to keep, cut back on or cancel. By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to describe their subscriptions, argue for and against the subscription model, and justify financial decisions with natural, well-structured English.
