What students are going to cover
In this lesson, students will explore what it means to be a student today through an article packed with real statistics: what the world chooses to study, how many students work to cover the cost of living, and how sleep, anxiety, and AI are reshaping university life. They will build vocabulary related to higher education, money, and wellbeing, then practise exam-style reading with heading-matching and true, false or not given tasks. Learners will master the language of numbers, using phrases such as just over half, the vast majority, and up from just 10 per cent, before delivering a two-minute podcast-style briefing. By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to present statistics fluently, describe trends accurately, and question data critically in English.
