Main objectives of this material
- Develop practical vocabulary related to clothes shops, sizes and payment, including words and phrases such as fitting room, try on, tight, loose, receipt, refund, exchange, in stock and sold out.
- Strengthen speaking and reading skills by analysing three short shop conversations about trying on a jacket, paying by card and returning a shirt, reading a real price tag and receipt, and role-playing situations where the size is wrong, the card machine fails and the customer has no receipt.
- Learn and practise polite functional language for customers using structures such as Do you have this in a medium?, Can I try this on?, Can I pay by card? and Could I get a refund, please? to turn direct requests into friendly, natural English.
What students are going to cover
In this lesson, students will explore what to say in a clothes shop, from asking for a different size to paying and getting a refund, through a cold role play, three model conversations and a real price tag and receipt. They will build vocabulary related to clothes, sizes, payment and returns, such as fitting room, on sale and exchange, while strengthening speaking and reading skills through matching, true or false and label-reading tasks. They will then practise polite customer language with Can I, Could I and please before a final role play with a twist. By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to ask for the right size, pay and ask for a receipt, and request a refund or an exchange politely in a real shop.
