About this set B2 · C1
Speaking cards for practising how to give feedback and deliver bad news in English, made for teachers of adult B2-C1 learners, managers and Business English students. Students handle difficult conversations at work while the teacher plays a colleague who reacts emotionally: defensive, upset, angry or silent.
- Feedback Language Cards (B2) – 12 cards: key expressions for difficult conversations in four steps: open (I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news), describe (I’ve noticed that…, The impact of this is…), listen (Help me understand what happened, I can see this is hard to hear) and agree next steps (Going forward, what would help?). Each card has a TRY IT task with the teacher.
- Feedback That Lands (B2-C1) – 16 situation cards: the person, the relationship, the situation and the goal: the best junior misses a deadline for the third time, a loyal colleague doesn’t get the promotion, a manager sends emails at 10 p.m., a long-term supplier loses the contract. The student gives feedback, breaks bad news or gives praise.
- Your Feedback (B2-C1) – 10 real-life cards: the conversation the student keeps putting off, praise someone deserves, feedback for their own manager, an annual review and honest feedback on their English lessons.
- Teacher Reaction Cards – 16 cards: who the teacher plays, their mood (defensive, upset, counterattack, denial), two emotional reactions and the condition for calming down, so the student has to stay calm and reach the goal.
