About this set A1 · A2
Information-gap restaurant and café English role-plays for teachers of adult A1-A2 learners. Students practise ordering food and drinks in English for themselves, colleagues and clients, asking about ingredients and allergies, dealing with sold-out dishes and paying the bill, as the customer and as the waiter or barista.
- Café Talk (A1) – 16 word cards: essential café and restaurant vocabulary (menu, order, sold out, vegan, gluten-free, contains nuts, takeaway, the bill, a tip, a refill, decaf), each with a simple meaning and a talk task about the student’s own eating habits.
- Can I Order, Please? (A1-A2) – 12 customer role-plays: a team coffee run, lunch with a client, breakfast before a train, a gluten-free birthday cake, a festival food truck, a wrong bill and last orders at the pub, each with a budget or a time limit.
- Sorry, It’s Sold Out (A2) – 12 waiter and barista role-plays: the student knows the menu, prices and what is sold out, and helps difficult customers: no vegan sandwich, six coffees for the office, a guest who can’t eat nuts, a cold soup, splitting the bill, a forgotten wallet.
- Teacher cards – 24 secret cards: the other side of every role-play: menu details, what the teacher knows, what they want and a twist the student has to react to.
