Main objectives of this material

  • Develop workplace and employment vocabulary related to remote and hybrid work, including terms such as hybrid model, office occupancy, flexible schedule, staff turnover, full-time office return, commercial district, productivity and work-life balance, practised through a ten-term vocabulary board, a ten-sentence gap-fill, a ten-item definition matching task and a 25-card flashcard set.
  • Strengthen reading comprehension and data literacy by analysing a reading passage on the shift to hybrid work (remote work rising from under 10% to over 60% in 2020, hybrid schedules accounting for nearly 45% of professional positions by 2025, office attendance peaking on Tuesdays and Wednesdays), answering four open questions, three multiple-choice items, a numbers check and four true-or-false statements, and interpreting a data table comparing fully remote, fully in-office and hybrid models in 2020, 2022 and 2026.
  • Learn and practise trend language for describing statistics using verb + adverb and noun + adjective patterns such as skyrocketed dramatically, dropped sharply, increased gradually, levelled off, a dramatic surge, a sharp drop and accounted for 45% of jobs, through sentence transformation, data description and error correction tasks.

What students are going to cover

In this lesson, students will explore how remote and hybrid work reshaped offices, commuting and city centres after 2020, starting with a five-item vocabulary revision and four warm-up questions about their own working habits. They will read a 270-word passage on the shift to remote and hybrid work, study a ten-term vocabulary board of workplace and employment terms, complete a ten-sentence gap-fill and match ten definitions to trend expressions such as skyrocket, level off and fluctuate. Comprehension is checked with four open questions, three multiple-choice items, a numbers check and four true-or-false statements. The main focus presents verb + adverb and noun + adjective patterns for describing data, practised through five verb-to-noun transformations, a data table with a bar chart for writing three trend sentences and three error-correction items, before a four-question discussion on productivity, creativity and the future of city centres. Homework includes a seven-gap trend text and a 100-120-word data writing task; the package adds a teacher version, an interactive fillable worksheet, a 23-slide presentation and a 25-card flashcard set. By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to describe increases, decreases and stability in data accurately, discuss hybrid work policies using workplace vocabulary, and correct common errors in trend language.
