Main objectives of this material

  • Develop social media and marketing vocabulary at B1 level, including terms such as viral, trend, algorithm, engagement, content gap, search demand, seasonal and subculture, through a ten-item matching task, a ten-sentence gap-fill, a glossary and a fifteen-card flashcard set.
  • Strengthen reading comprehension by analysing a 330-word text on TikTok as a search engine in 2026, locating key facts (users searching for autumn fashion in July, over 400,000 searches for "fall shoe trends 2026" with almost no videos, a 447% rise in search demand for K-pop dance videos in one week) and answering five true-or-false, short-answer and multiple-choice questions.
  • Learn and practise Present Perfect vs. Past Simple using time expressions such as over the last few days, yet, in recent years, yesterday, three months ago and in July 2026 to describe online trends in a ten-sentence written task, four speaking cards and a ten-sentence error-correction homework.

What students are going to cover

In this lesson, students will explore how young people use TikTok instead of traditional search engines and what this means for creators and brands. After a three-question warm-up on viral products and online hobbies, they build social media vocabulary with a ten-word matching exercise and a ten-sentence quick-practice gap-fill. They then read a 330-word text, How Young People Search on TikTok in 2026, and answer five comprehension questions on seasonal searches, the content gap and how the algorithm rewards engagement. The grammar stage contrasts Present Perfect and Past Simple with rule cards, a timeline graphic, a ten-sentence written task and four speaking discussion cards. The homework includes a ten-item vocabulary gap-fill, a Trend Discovery Challenge writing task, ten error-correction sentences and a linked podcast with five comprehension questions on the "5-9 Rituals" and "30 Before 30" trends. The package also includes a fifteen-card flashcard set, a 23-slide presentation, an interactive worksheet and a teacher version with full answer keys. By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to describe online trends with ten target words, choose correctly between Present Perfect and Past Simple with finished and unfinished time expressions, and summarise the key facts of a B1 reading text.
